Operations Engineer adopts ‘digital first’ model26 March 2020

Operations Engineer, the print magazine for professional plant and operations engineers, technicians and managers, is changing its publishing model and reducing its print frequency.

Instead of publishing a monthly print title, the brand is now posting new content, such as news and feature articles, to its website every week.

Starting in April, they will be collected into a new weekly e-newsletter. And starting in June, they will feature in an enhanced quarterly print journal that promises more content, new sections and a high-quality design.

Existing subscribers to the Operations Engineer email newsletter need not make any changes; those who are not yet signed up can do so by filling out this form.

Operations Engineer is produced on behalf of the Society of Operations Engineers by MA Business (a division of Mark Allen Group).

In a written communication to members explaining the changes, SOE chief operating officer Daniel Moir said: “As a Society we have two core goals – promoting sustainability and reaching out to the next generation of engineers. To reduce our organisation's reliance on print and postage, we are looking to deliver more of our communications digitally. These changes bring a regular stream of online content; more sustainable publishing; and retention of a quality print product.”

Jon Benson, chief operating officer of the Mark Allen Group, and publisher of Operations Engineer, said: “Technology underlies everything that we do, and there is an onus on everybody to become more environmentally sustainable. Operations Engineer is a forward-thinking title, and moving to a ‘digital first’ model will enable us to get regular, high-quality editorial content to the fingertips of readers even quicker and more sustainably.”
